Abstract

(Purpose) This study explores the challenges and opportunities of implementing Green Human Resource Management (Green HRM) to enhance employee performance at PT Tempo Scan Area Surabaya 1. The objective is to examine how practices in recruitment, training, performance management, compensation, and employee involvement can be aligned with sustainability goals while supporting organizational performance(Methods) Employing a qualitative design, data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation with five informants consisting of HR staff, supervisors, and employees, selected by purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using data and source triangulation to ensure validity(Results) The findings indicate that Green HRM practices are still at an early stage, with recruitment and performance management not yet integrating environmental indicators, training limited to general awareness, and compensation lacking structured rewards for green contributions. Nevertheless, employee involvement in pro-environmental activities is increasing and reflects potential for broader implementation. These results highlight both the structural and managerial challenges faced by the company, as well as the strategic opportunities that Green HRM offers in fostering sustainable performance. (Implications) The study contributes to the literature by providing empirical insights into Green HRM in the Indonesian pharmaceutical distribution sector, with limitations stemming from its single-case focus. Future research should extend to multiple organizations and consider mixed-method approaches to measure the link between Green HRM and employee performance more comprehensively
